Thanks! Yep, that's what I was looking for. Have you used these? It looks like the Mataway Slicer/Dethatcher and Mataway Overseeder/Dethatcher are the same machine except that the latter has a hopper and plastic tubes going to discs that direct the seed into the slits made by the tines. Is that right? Reading other web comments about these gave me the impression that some users think it's preferable to not use the fancy one with the tubes but just run the slicer over the ground followed by a pass with a drop or broadcast seed spreader. Does anyone else have an opinion?

Which of the two Ryans I showed above did you use, the Mataway Slicer/Dethatcher or the Mataway Overseeder/Dethatcher?

Try the lawn solution revitalizer does a great job and its easy to run.

I got good results using the ryan, but it takes 3 men & a boy to turn it!

The Ryan slice seeder with the discs is a good machine because it puts the seed in the slit/ground where it belongs. The bad thing is it won't do hills very well at all, even if they are not very steep. It's a converted greens slice seeder made for lawns. A better choice is the salsco slice seeder, also has the slicer blades and steel tubes that drop the seed at the discs into the slits. Built like a tank and you can get a 13 hp honda. These machines cost more than most but you get what you pay for. Slice seeders like the lesco drop the seed, make the slice and then the brush in back helps to sweep some of the loose seeds and hope they find their way into the slits, not even close to the efficiency of the salsco.
